Core Values at Red Door Interactive

Last fall, our pre-conference workshop with the SHRM Strategy Conference visited Red Door Interactive. Red Door is an up-and-coming internet marketing agency based in San Diego, with additional offices in Denver.

Many organizations have core values. Red Door does too. It includes these four:

  1. Inspire–Encouraging others through inspiration.
  2. Share–Impart everything–what you have and what you know.
  3. Evolve–Keep improving, building and thriving.
  4. Exceed–Know the expectations and exceed on the right stuff.

They post these values around the office, allowing them to continually host conversations among their team about what matters most.

But what we really liked about their core values was their 5th core value: 100% Jerk Free.

What is 100% Jerk Free? It’s about creating a culture of open-minded acceptance and respect 100% of the time. It also supports their purpose:

“Together we create to help each other win.”

As well as their values, they note their purpose in the center of the workplace. Photo by J. Jeff Kober.

What are the fruits of focusing on your values and mission? Well, Red Door Interactive has been recognized by AdAge as a Best Place to Work, voted a Best Place to Work by San Diego Business Journal, recognized for their Workplace Excellence by San Diego SHRM, and recognized as a winner of the Top Small Company Workplaces by Inc. Magazine & Winning Workplaces.

Ask yourself:

  • What do you value?
  • How do you make it come alive?
  • How is it a part of your culture?
  • How do you make those ideas live and breathe physically in your workplace?
